EL 201 – Drilling Simulation Laboratory

The drilling simulation laboratory is open for undergraduate and graduate students of the Petroleum Engineering department. The theoretical knowledge of the students is practiced with the help of a drilling simulation instrument which gives realistic practice experiences. In order to show the real drilling production site and train the students with relevant knowledge and skills drilling simulation instrument is used. The software and the controllers of the instrument create a multi-station training environment. The drilling simulation laboratory gives an opportunity to Petroleum engineering undergraduate and graduate students to conduct well tests, production optimization, and phase behaviors with the help of a drilling simulation instrument.  The students learn how to safely drill while monitoring the weight on the bit and controlling the pumps, drill bit speed, adding and removing pipes, etc.

Research Opportunities

• Research on drilling topics,
• Research on Gas expansion and migration,
• Formation fluid type and permeability,
• Horizontal and deviated wells,
• Rock strength and abrasiveness.
